Frequently Asked Questions
* How do I know
if I am running the latest version?
*How
do I purchase licenses for my client. *Can
I use Word Perfect? We have found that if you have MS Word 97 installed that Word Perfect 9 can be used for the majority of the forms from Legal Easy. Versions of MS Word later than 97 cause Word Perfect 9 and 10 to crash when it tries to open a document created by later versions of MS Word. *I get an error message that the file is locked. This is a safety feature on networked systems that allows only one user to be editing the file at one time. You may draft documents if the data file is locked but all changes that you make will be discarded. If you believe that this message is in error, or you need to edit this file, you may take ownership of the file by going to MISC. then DATA FILE HEADER and then check the TAKE OWNERSHIP button. Make sure that no one else is in this file before doing this since this will cause his/her changes to be discarded !!! *How do I get the client’s information from the floppy disk? Insert the floppy disk into the drive. In Attorney’s Assistant, click on File on the menu bar and click on “Receive Client File”. Choose “Get from Diskette or Mail Directory”. By default, you will be taken to the LEMail folder. Click on the drop-down arrow beside the folder and find the floppy drive letter, and select the client’s file by clicking on it once and then clicking Open. You will be taken to an Import Data File box that should now contain the client’s file name to import. You will now want to select where to place this file. Click in the blank space beside “Enter Destination”. By default, this will bring up the directory where your data files are located. Click Save and you will be returned to the Import Data File box to confirm your choices. Make sure both fields are filled in and click OK. When the file has been received, you will receive a message stating your data file has been received. You will notice at the bottom of your screen that you are now in that data file. *How do I send the client’s data file to the floppy disk? Insert the floppy disk into the drive. In Attorney’s Assistant, click on File on the menu bar and click on “Send Client File”. Choose “Send to Diskette or Mail Directory”. By default, your current data file directory will appear and you will need to select the data file you wish to send by clicking on it once and then click Open. You will be taken to an Export Data File box that should now contain the client’s file name to export in the Enter Source field. You will now want to select where to send this file. Click in the blank space beside “Enter Destination”. By default, you will be taken to the LEMail folder. Click on the drop-down arrow beside the folder and find the floppy drive letter and Click Save. You will be returned to the Export Data File box to confirm your choices. Make sure both fields are filled in and click OK. When the file has been sent, you will receive a message stating your data file has been sent. *How do I send data using FTP and ATTORNEY ADDRESS? To send data using FTP (File Transfer Protocol), an attorney must be assigned an FTP Address. An attorney can set up their attorney address through the FTP Setup Wizard in Attorney’s Assistant located under MISC>NETWORK SETUP or by contacting Legal Easy, Inc. Please choose a name and password that you can remember. Once this is set up, it is the fastest and easiest method for moving data files. *Where did it save my file? Attorney’s Assistant automatically saves the client file every 5 minutes to your C: drive. Upon exiting the Client Information screen, the file will be saved with the client’s last name first name and last 4 digits of the Social Security Number (DoeJohn5555.ed). The physical location of the data file is C:/Program Files/Legal Easy/Attorneys Assistant/data. You can check the location by clicking on the top menu bar under MISC>NETWORK SETUP and noting the path listed under Data Directory. (On a client's computer the location will always be C:/Program Files/Legal Easy/Attorneys Assistant/data) *What if I don’t want to be asked upon exit if I want to backup my data files? You may change this setting my clicking on the menu bar under MISC>OPTIONS and un-checking “Do Backup on Exit”. * I cannot exit a screen because I am unable to see the whole screen and it won’t let me out. If your screen is too large, you will not be able to see the
DONE button. The minimum preferred screen size is 800X600.
Check your display setting under Start>Settings>Display. If it is already 800X600 you should
check to make sure your toolbar is on auto hide by hovering over your windows toolbar, right
clicking and choosing Properties.
To backup all of your data files, just go to the tools menu and select
backup all data files This will
begin backing up all of your clients data files into the backup directory
specified in MISC>NETWORK SETTING>BACKUP
DIRECTORY. * How can I Secure my briefcase files in case I lose the disk.
